چکیده

Measurement of an individual molar provides rich information for forensic personal identification. We propose a computer-based system for extracting an individual molar from dental panoramic radiographs. A molar is obtained by extracting the region-of-interest, separating the maxilla and mandible, and extracting the boundaries between teeth. The proposed system is almost fully automatic; all that the user has to do is clicking three points on the boundary between the maxilla and the mandible. key words: tooth extraction, dental panoramic radiographs

A preliminary study of dental patterns in panoramic radiography for forensic identification

Fingerprints, DNA, and dentition are the principal markers used for forensic identification. Frequently used dental characteristics for identification include evidence of dental procedures, such as restorations, root canal therapy, crowns, and extractions. The purposes of this preliminary study were to define dental parameters in panoramic radiographs to generate dental patterns for forensic id...

A Multibiometric Approach in a Semi Automatic Dental Recognition Using DIFT Technique and Dental Shape Features

Teeth are one of the most important and popular biometric characteristic used in Forensic Dentistry. The development of automatic or semiautomatic, robust and precise forensic human identification systems are crucial for forensic, principally in mass disasters, like tsunamis and airplanes crashes. In this work we propose the use of the Differential Image Foresting Transform (DIFT) to extract th...

Effect of extraction of permanent first molars on the development and eruption of third molars

BACKGROUND AND AIM: It is required in many young patients that permanent first molars (PFMs) be extracted due to poor prognosis. This study investigates whether the extraction of such teeth is effective on the development of third molars and even their crown and root morphologies.METHODS: A total of 7000 panoramic radiographs were evaluated and 128 radiographs showing a history of extraction of...

Comparison of the Inclination of Unerupted Mandibular Third Molars on Panoramic Radiography and Casts Made after Surgical Incision

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Panoramic radiographs are used for surgical planning of unerupted third molars. The major prob-lems associated with panoramic radiography include unequal magnification and geometric distortion of the image. The purpose of this study was the clinical evaluation of the effect of radiographic distortion on the position and classification of unerpted mandibular third molars. M...

The Relationship between Dental Maturity based on Demirjian’s Method and Cervical Vertebrae Maturation Stages in Guilan patients

Introduction: Dental maturation is a useful indicator of growth. Moreover, skeletal maturation is assessed by the cervical vertebrae maturation (CVM) stages, using lateral cephalometric radiographs. This study aimed to investigate the association between Demirjian’s method and CVM stages and also to analyze the diagnostic performance of the dental maturation stages for identification of ...
